Huff enjoys 'wonderful day' in Morocco

4 May 2009

Rob Huff said it had been a wonderful day for the Chevrolet team in Marrakech after the Briton secured the teams first World Touring Car Championship victory with the new Cruze.

Huff went into the weekend having failed to score in the opening rounds of the year in Brazil and Mexico but showed the potential of the Cruze by securing pole position at the new Moroccan street circuit.

Huff then led the opening race from start to finish to take his first win of the campaign, while the Brit followed it up with a fine drive through from eighth on the grid in race two to finish on the podium in third – having been unable to find a way past Yvan Muller in the closing laps.

“It's a wonderful day and the car has been just fantastic throughout the weekend,” he said. “In race one, starting from the pole, I knew that if I could keep my line I had a slight advantage, so most of the work was done. That's what happened and once in first position I focused on trying not to overheat the brakes, which was the main challenge at this track. From lap four, the brake temperature became quite high indeed, but that was the case for everybody, and things luckily didn't change much.

“Race two was more lively, I managed to overtake one SEAT at the start and another one later on, and then gained two more positions when Jorg Muller and Alain hit trouble, finishing again on the podium. I am very happy, for the team, for Nicola and myself.”
