Farfus surprised with second

Augusto Farfus admitted he was surprised to qualify on the front row of the grid for the World Touring Car Championship event at Pau after the Brazilian posted the second quickest time behind fellow BMW driver Andy Priaulx.

Farfus has always gone well at the French street circuit in the past and went close to adding another pole to his Pau resume when he went quickest ahead of Tom Coronel in the closing stages.

However, Priaulx was still on a quick-lap and duly went just 0.011secs quicker than the Brazilian to secure top spot, with Farfus now hoping to turn his front-row slot into a pair of strong results on race day.

“This is a very small gap – but it's still enough for me not to start from pole!” he said. “Nevertheless I'm really happy with this result. We didn't expect to be up in front.

“Due to my strong races here in the past, everyone expects another success from me. But there's still a long way to go. Our grid position is excellent, now we have to wait and see what tomorrow's races will bring.”
