Yvan Muller posted the quickest time for SEAT as on-track action kicked off for the second European event on the World Touring Car Championship calendar in Valencia.
The defending champion posted a quickest time of 1min 44.811secs at the wheel of his SEAT Leon TDi in the final minutes of the session to outpace team-mate Rickard Rydell by 0.252secs. Fellow SEAT driver Gabriele Tarquini was third quickest, although he was half a second off the pace.
Fresh from his strong showing in Pau, Independents' Trophy runner Tom Coronel was an impressive fourth in his petrol powered SEAT and comfortably clear of his rivals, while the Chevrolet challenge was led by Nicola Larini in fifth. Alex Zanardi was quickest of the BMW drivers in sixth, with Jordi Gene, Rob Huff, Augusto Farfus and Andy Priaulx completing the top ten.
On the weekend when the team debuts a new improved engine, Jaap van Lagen was a solid 16th on the timesheets and was only 0.003secs behind Pau racewinner Alain Menu.
While a number of drivers took a trip into the gravel, the session passed without major incident.
