Monteiro keeps SEAT top in Spain

30 May 2009

Tiago Monteiro ensured SEAT remainded at the head of the field in Spain by pacing the second free practice session at Valencia.

The Portuguese driver set a quickest time of 1min 44.845secs with eight minutes of the session remaining to comfortably outpace the BMW of Augusto Farfus – with the Brazilian over six-tenths of a second behind.

Nicola Larini ensured there were three makes in the top three at the wheel of his Chevrolet Cruze, while Rickard Rydell, Alex Zanardi and Yvan Muller completed the top six. Zanardi did suffer a brief spin at turn one during the session but was again impressive at the wheel of his ROAL Motorsport-run BMW.

Tom Coronel was again the leading Independent runner in ninth place, although he was little more than a tenth of a second ahead of the BMW of Stefano D'Aste.

Jordi Gene caused the session to be briefly red-flagged after running wide and losing his rear bumper, while the LADA of Jaap van Lagen failed to take to the track after needing an engine change.
