Tough weekend for Huff in Spain

1 June 2009

Rob Huff saw his race-winning run in the FIA World Touring Car Championship come to an end in Spain after incidents in both races in Valencia left him with a brace of 22nd place finishes.

Having won in both Marrakech and Pau, the Briton was chasing a third win of the campaign but was aware that Spain would provide extra challenges, with his Chevrolet Cruze carrying 30 kilos of compensation weight.

Huff qualified eighth on the grid but lost positions on the long run down to turn one. As he attempted to battle back up the order, contact with the SEAT of Mehdi Bennani left him with a puncture, while he was also handed a drive-through penalty which ultimately left him down in 22nd.

Damage sustained in a lap one collision in race two left Huff struggling for pace and he was unable to better his race one result – again taking the flag down in 22nd and leaving him without any points from the weekend.

“I got hit in the first corner in race one and lost position, then a couple of laps later I had contact with Bennani, and had to stop in the pits to change a punctured right front tyre,” explained Rob. “I made a good start in race two, but later made a little mistake in turn two, missing the braking point and unwillingly hitting my team-mate Alain Menu. From that point on I couldn't make up any ground and finished out of the points again.”
