SEAT has confirmed that World Touring Car Championship works driver Jordi Gene will form part of an assault on this weekend's 12 Hours of Spa.
Gene will be joined at the wheel of a SEAT Leon Supercopa by former WTCC Independent runner Pierre-Yves Corthals and former Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, who will be making his touring car debut in the event.
The car has been registered by SEAT Belgium for the event, and will see the trio competing together having been rivals in Formula Three earlier in their respective careers.
“The challenge of racing at Spa is tremendously appealing,” Gene said, “since it's one of the world's best circuits. I competed there a few years ago with the SEAT Toledo and this will be my first time with a León. And it'll be a pleasure to have Jacques Villeneuve on the team, as I've known him for several years since we raced at the Formula 3.
He's a great guy and it isn't every day you get to share a car with a Formula 1 World Champion who also used to be my brother Marc's team-mate at Le Mans.
“Our objective is to have fun, win if possible in our category and post a good result for SEAT Belgium.”
