Tom Coronel will be joined by brother Tim for the latest round of the World Touring Car Championship this weekend at Brno, as the pair get set to become the first twins to contest a WTCC event.
Tim secured his slot on the grid with victory in the opening weekend of the new SEAT Leon Eurocup campaign and will run in the same SUNRED Engineering team as his brother for his first WTCC outing.
Having had a shakedown at Barcelona in the car of his brother before getting behind the wheel of his own SEAT Leon and he admitted he couldn't wait for the weekend to come round.
"First, I did the shakedown with Tom's car," he said. "That felt like a real honour. After that, I drove my own race car. I didn't have a frame of reference, so it is difficult to judge how things were going, but I had the impression that it went pretty well.
"Compared to the SEAT Leon from the Eurocup, the main differences in the WTCC car are a quicker gearshift, more precise steering and better balance. Moreover, driving with tyres that have been warmed up was a new experience for me. You have grip right away, so you can be quick right away!
"With a total of four races, it will be a busy weekend for me, but racing is the best thing there is."
Tom comes into the event on the back of his run with Spyker in the Le Mans 24 Hours, and he said he was looking forward to racing alongside his brother.
"Le Mans was fantastic, but now, I am really eager to go for it at Brno," he said. "At Valencia, I won the independents' class for the first time this season and I am now also leading the points' standings in this championship. The characteristics of the Brno circuit aren't ideal for us, but of course, I will do my utmost. Competing in one race together with Tim is just great!"
