Priaulx leads the way at Brno

20 June 2009

Andy Priaulx led the way for BMW during the opening World Touring Car Championship free practice session of the weekend in the Czech Republic.

On a wet circuit, the BMW Team UK driver left it until the final minutes of the session to post a quickest time of 2min 20.988secs to outpace Alex Zanardi – who enjoyed easily his best weekend of the session at the Czech venue last year.

BMW dominated the times, with Augusto Farfus third and Jorg Muller fourth in the Schnitzer car, ahead of the leading Independent runner Stefano D'Aste in his Wiechers-Sport entered 320si slotting into fifth.

Rickard Rydell was first of the SEAT runners in sixth ahead of Nicola Larini's Chevrolet, with Felix Porteiro, Jordi Gene and Tiago Monteiro rounding out the top ten.

Points leader Yvan Muller was down in 15th place, two positions behind Tom Coronel who suffered engine problems at the start of the session with the powerplant on his SEAT Leon TFSi running on only three cylinders. His brother Tim was 19th ahead of his WTCC debut.

LADA Sport driver Kirill Ladygin was the only person not to set a time.
