New LADA gets weight break

10 July 2009

The FIA Touring Car Bureau has announced that the new LADA Priora will receive a weight break for its second race meeting at Brands Hatch next weekend.

As a newly homologated car, the Priora was forced to carry maximum compensation weight of 40 kilos for its debut race on the streets of Porto and should have carried that weight again for the British rounds.

However, having looked at the lap times posted by James Thompson during qualifying and on race day in Portugal, the Touring Car Bureau has elected to reduce the mimimum weight of the car by 20 kilos – the same reduction granted to the older LADA 110 and the SEAT Leon TFSi following the Portuguese event.

For the Brands Hatch meeting, the BMW 320si and the SEAT Leon TDI will be running on maximum compensation weight, as will the visiting Volvo C30. The Chevrolet Cruze will run with ten kilos of compensation weight while no weight will be added to the BMW of Alex Zanardi – the only BMW running a sequential gearbox.
