Double score for Huff on home soil

Rob Huff has maintained his position as top Briton in the World Touring Car Championship with a double points scoring performance at Brands Hatch – including a fine defensive drive to take second in the opening race of the weekend.

Huff qualified second on the grid behind team-mate Alain Menu and then took the lead at the start when he went round the outside of Menu into Paddock Hill Bend.

With Menu clearly quicker behind, Huff allowed the Swiss star through into the lead and was then forced to take on a defensive role for the remainder of the race to keep the BMW of Andy Priaulx behind.

Despite the best efforts of the former champion, Huff refused to let the BMW to find a way through to secure his sixth podium of the season and take Chevrolet to a 1-2 finish.

Huff followed that up with sixth place in the second race of the weekend and ends the weekend in fifth place in the standings – just a point behind SEATs Rickard Rydell.

“I'm very happy with my performance at Brands Hatch,” said Rob. “Of course I would have liked to have won Race 1 here at home and in front of my fans, but Alain was faster, so I let him go on lap five and I just focused on protecting a great team result for Chevrolet.

“Andy Priaulx was behind me and had the pace over me. I made his life as hard as possible to keep him behind and was quick enough at certain points of the track to do so. He was quicker coming into the corners but luckily the Chevrolet is faster round the back of the track. I had to work hard for this result.

“I had another good fight with Tiago Monteiro and Alex Zanardi in race two and I managed to pass both of them, finishing sixth and scoring some more good points.”
