Coronel keen to complete season

Tom Coronel says he is keen to continue in the World Touring Car Championship despite losing backing from SEAT Holland.

SEAT's Dutch importer Pon Car revealed earlier this week that it was to stop its WTCC programme at the end of the European season – ruling Coronel out of the final two rounds of the season in Japan and Macau.

With Coronel currently lying second to Felix Porteiro in the race for the Independents' Trophy and with the title still very much in reach, the Dutch driver said he was working hard to try and find the budget to allow him to race through to the end of the season as he seeks to secure a second Indy crown.

“It is a big disappointment, because Japan and Macau are very special places to me,” Coronel said. “I fully respect the motivations behind the Pon Car's decision. They have always given me tremendous support and the fact that I have been racing in WTCC for the last five years is fully due to their efforts.

“However, myself and SUNRED Engineering are keen to finish the season, especially as we are still in contention for the Independents' Trophy. So we are looking for the budget that will enable us to race in Okayama and Macau. I never give up, so I will try everything I can to complete this mission."
