Rob Huff has taken his third win of the World Touring Car Championship season with a dominating drive in the opening race of the weekend in Macau.

The Chevrolet driver started from pole and led from start to finish as he secured victory, while points leader Gabriele Tarquini finished second and will now take a lead of six points into the final race of the year – with Yvan Muller now his only rival.

Huff held the lead from the start ahead of a fast-starting Tiago Monteiro and Tarquini while Andy Priaulx saw his hopes end early when he was forced wide by Jordi Gene's SEAT at turn one and hit the wall on the outside of the circuit, leaving the former champion to drag his damaged car back to the pits to give the RBM team the chance to make repairs for race two.

The only change for position through the opening laps saw Augusto Farfus take fifth from team-mate Jorg Muller on lap two with Macau failing to live up to its reputation for carnage in a somewhat subdued affair.

While positions remained static for the majority of the race, things changed somewhat on the final two laps as drivers jostled to get a better position for race two.

Firstly, Monteiro started to slow which allowed both Tarquini and Gene through into second and third, while BMW pair Farfus and Jorg Muller also then got ahead before the end of the penultimate lap. Alain Menu and Yvan Muller – who had run eighth throughout – also got ahead of Monteiro but the Portuguese driver was prevented from taking pole for the final race as both Farfus and Jorg Muller then slowed to drop down the order.

As a result of the late shenanigans, Huff took victory by the best part of eight seconds from Tarquini and Gene while Menu ended up fourth having been the main beneficiary from the team tactics around him as the Swiss driver came up from seventh at the start of the final lap.

Yvan Muller was fifth to keep his title hopes alive ahead of Monteiro, Jorg Muller and Farfus – the Brazilian seeing his title hopes end but taking pole for race two,

In the Independents', Tom Coronel was the highest finisher in 13th place and has now secured the title ahead of the final race having put himself out of reach of former works BMW driver Felix Porteiro.
