SEAT celebrates successful defence

SEAT Sport boss Jaime Puig praises team after defending both WTCC titles in Macau
SEAT Sport director Jaime Puig has praised his team after it successfully defended both of its World Touring Car Championship titles in Macau.

Gabriele Tarquini wrapped up his maiden drivers' title after managing to hold off the challenge of outgoing champion Yvan Muller – making him the oldest winner of an FIA world title – while the team also managed to fend off BMW to secure the manufacturers' title for the second straight season.

Speaking after both titles were secured, Puig admitted he was proud of his team for the way in which it had performed during the season and said that the aim at the start of the season had simply been to defend one of the two championships.

“Winning two championships for the second year in a row is the reward for a fantastic year and I want to thank the whole team for their effort, their great capacity for work and their solidarity,” Puig said. “The races in Macau have shown that we are a team in which everybody works for everybody.

“After the two championships achieved last year, we wanted to take at least one of the titles this year, and we took them both. It's been an extraordinary result."
