The FIA has announced that the World Touring Car Championship will adopt the same scoring system as F1 and the WRC for the 2010 season.

The change will come into effect from the opening round of the campaign in Brazil and will see the top ten finishers scoring points on each event during the season.

The decision was taken following a fax vote involving WTCC entrants and will see points awarded on the following scale: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-5-4-2-1.

The change is currently subject to confirmation by the World Motor Sport Council.

Despite the scoring change, the rule on the reverse grid for the second race will remain the same, with the top eight drivers in the race one result being reversed on the grid for race two.
