has announced that James Thompson will form part of its commentary team for the 2010 World Touring Car Championship season.
The double British Touring Car champion - who has driven for the likes of SEAT, N.Technology and LADA during the past five years in the WTCC – will take the place of John Cleland in the commentary booth alongside Eurosport
regular Martin Haven.
Thompson will take on his new role from this weekend's season-opener in Brazil, although he is due to compete in the series himself later in the year with the Hartmann Honda team.
Haven said he was pleased to have Thompson alongside him for the season ahead, and predicted an exciting opening round at the challenging Curitiba circuit this weekend.
“Former two-time British Touring Car champion and World Touring Car driver James Thompson will be joining the commentary team this season and it will be great to have him on board with his knowledge and experience,” Haven said. “Curitiba will be hot with high altitude which should play nicely into the hands of the turbo diesels. It's also the home track of Augusto Farfus who was born in Curitiba. The Brazilian will partner Priaulx in BMW's RBM team, which will be BMW's main thrust this season. It will be interesting to see how that works as Priaulx has never had a season-long team mate before and has always been a one-man team in the past.”
