Series promoters KSO have said that a decision over whether or not to replace the World Touring Car Championship event in Mexico will be taken before the Moroccan event in Marrakech in May.

The event at Puebla, which was due to take place on 11 April, was cancelled due to security reports coming out of the area and following consultation between the FIA and the Mexican National Sporting Authority.

Speaking following the announcement earlier this week, KSO general manager Marcello Lotti admitted that the Puebla event may not be replaced on the calendar and if a replacement was found, the event wouldn't take place until later in the year.

"No decision has yet been taken," he said. "We will think about it, evaluate the different opportunities and decide before the next meeting in Marrakech. As a matter of fact we are not looking for a replacement on the same date of Puebla, because there would not be enough time to organise the event properly with an appropriate promotional campaign.

"If there is a replacement, this will take place in the gap between Valencia and Okayama and, therefore, would be somewhere on the way to Japan. However we could very well stay with eleven events."
