Monteiro happy with Honda progress

Tiago Monteiro says he is happy with the progress being made by Honda after recent three-day test
Tiago Monteiro says he is pleased with the progress being made by Honda on the back of the team's recent three-day test session in Valencia.

Both Monteiro and team-mate Gabriele Tarquini spent time behind the wheel of the Civic during the test, which gave the team the first chance to test a series of new parts introduced since the 2012 season finale in Macau.

With a number of changes to the suspension to be evaluated, the pair completed more than 800km of on-track running, with Monteiro pleased with the progress made.

"This was a test hectic and it was very intense,” the former F1 driver said. “We have had no problems, which allowed us to do a lot of laps.

"We're testing the car in extreme conditions. We underwent several tests of the electronics, engine, brakes etc. In our next test, we will concentrate on some very specific areas. The intention is to find a good baseline to help us adapt to various conditions and situations that we will encounter this year.

"These tests are essential for the evolution of the car and I think that the work we have done in recent days has been very productive. Day after day, we feel a little better driving the Honda Civic."

Monteiro competed in the final three meetings of 2012 at the wheel of the Civic in preparation for the new season, taking a best finish of third during the season finale in Macau.

The next test for the car will come at the Motorland Aragon circuit from 11-13 February, after te official presentation of the Honda WTCC programme in Japan.
