Barth takes Wiechers Sport drive

Fredy Barth to drive for Wiechers Sport in the 2013 World Touring Car Championship
Having confirmed plans to return to the World Touring Car Championship last week, Wiechers Sport has now revealed that it has agreed a deal with Fredy Barth for the 2013 season.

Barth has competed at the wheel of SEAT machinery since 2004, when he competed in the SEAT Leon Supercopa in Germany, and has raced a Leon in the WTCC for the past three years – albeit only competing in the final two events of the season in 2012.

Now the 33-year-old has agreed terms to drive Wiechers Sport's BMW 320 TC during the year ahead, with the livery for the car being launched on the second day of the Geneva Motor Show.

Barth is set to compete in ten of the twelve events, with commitments elsewhere ruling him out of the events in Portugal and Brazil, with the team in discussions with other drivers to compete in those two meetings.

“After my successful return with two eighth places in Macau, I'm delighted to be back in the WTCC again in 2013,” he said. “I have to thank my partners and sponsors for their support and I'm sure that we have a strong package to fight for points and trophies during the season ahead.”

Team manager Dominik Greiner was also pleased with the deal to get the Swiss racer onboard for the year ahead.

“I have known Fredy for some time and I'm pleased that we can now work together,” he said. “We're facing an exciting new season and I'm sure that, once Fredy has got to know the BMW, he will be very competitive and we will be able to celebrate some success.”

Barth sampled the BMW for the first time during a test at the Slovakia Ring earlier this week.
