Tought start for Huff

Rob Huff secures a double points finish on a tough start to his WTCC title defence in Italy
Rob Huff endured a tough start to the defence of his World Touring Car Championship crown at Monza after a disappointing qualifying session saw the Briton forced to play catch-up on race day.

Huff, now running with the ALL-INKL.com Munnich Motorsport team, was forced to start both races from the back of the grid after a clash with the BMW of Fredy Barth at the start of qualifying damaged the suspension on his SEAT Leon and left him unable to set a time.

Wet conditions for race day played into the hands of the former Chevrolet man however as he surged up the order when the opening race got underway, making light of the rain to come through the field to finish in sixth spot.

Forced to then start race two from the pit lane after the team was forced to work on a suspension issue between races, Huff again battled his way through the pack to take tenth spot and a double points finish.

“I think that we made the most of what was a very trying weekend,” he said. “Qualifying wasn't ideal, and then we struggled with vibrations on the brakes, followed by a suspension issue on the fourth lap of the first race.

“I still think that we got some good results with a wounded car, the team did a fantastic job all weekend and Marc [Basseng] did brilliant job to finish fourth in race two. I think that we have learnt a lot as a team and I can't wait to get back out in the car in Marrakech and impress with the team some more.”
