WTCC Hungary 2013: Solid showing for MacDowall
7 May 2013
Alex MacDowall had another strong weekend at the Hungaroring during the fourth round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
The Bamboo Engineering driver - now with multiple podiums to his name to go with his two independent class victories this season – picked up an outright podium in the second race and a pair of second places in the independents class to take over second position in the fight for the Yokohama trophy and now only a point behind team-mate, James Nash, who leads the class.
MacDowall said that he is happy with the progress over the races, and 'gave the car everything' in pursuit of a possible win in race two, but overall, he is pleased after a 'good weekend'.
“It's good to come away from this weekend with two Independents podiums, as well as the overall one,” he said. “In the first race we gained some ground and I was trying as hard as I could, there was no extra pace to come from the car though – I gave it everything we had.
“It would have been nice to convert the pole position in race two into a win; I didn't make the best of starts and just couldn't keep with the front two. Then the tyres went off towards the end so it was all about keeping the others behind and maximising what we had. Overall it's been a good weekend; we've closed the gap right down in the Independents championship so I'm pleased about that.”
MacDowall will look forward to challenging for more silverware and scoring heavy independents category points at the Salzburgring in two weekend's time, which was the scene of his first independents victory last year.by Dexter Fielding
