Nash confident of further success

21 May 2013

James Nash has his eyes firmly fixed on more World Touring Car Championship success on the back of his maiden win at the Salzburgring.

Nash, who finished a very close second to Michel Nykjaer in race one, took his first victory in the series in race two to also wrap up a first success for his Bamboo Engineering team.

The former Arena Motorsport driver passed Norbet Michelisz early on in the race but was forced to race hard to see of the challenge of championship leader Yvan Muller in the closing laps.

The Yokohama trophy leader hauled himself up to third place in the overall championship with the win and was also able to open up a small advantage in the battle for top Independents honours against rivals Nykjaer and team mate Alex MacDowall.

"The victory has finally come!" an emotional Nash said. "I had to work for it though – Michelisz didn't let me go and so it became a case of managing the gap and the tyres. Over the last few laps, with Yvan approaching pretty quickly, I started to lean on the tyres and made a few errors. I am disappointed with that, but we had a big enough gap and so we kept it together.

"When he passed Norbi, for the first time I looked at how many laps there were to go. I always have high expectations of myself and I know what the car is capable of. I'm not achieving the capabilities of the car and that's down to me and I really need to get to grips with it.

"This win today has given the confidence to move forward and look at my ability and I know I can do it."
