Chilton happy with progress

13 June 2013

Former BTCC Independents champion, Tom Chilton, is pleased with the progress he is making with his RML Chevrolet Cruze on the back of a solid weekend as the World Touring Car Championship made its maiden visit to Russia.

He set the fastest front wheel drive lap of the weekend in Q1 at the new track but, got caught out by a localised shower on his Q2 run and started a relatively low twelfth on the grid.

Chilton made up for this by scoring points in both races; a quiet race one saw him take ninth and after battling through the field in race two, saw him take a credible sixth at the chequered.

Of his time in Russia, the 28-year-old said he enjoyed his time at the Moscow Raceway and is happy with 'further progress' that he has made with the car by scoring points in both races.

"I really enjoyed Moscow Raceway and what it had to offer this weekend," said the RML driver. "I've made further progress with the car and set the fastest front wheel drive time of the weekend Q1.

"In the second race, going from P12 to sixth was a great fight and I enjoyed every second of it. I lost too much time battling to try and get up to the podium with Yvan Muller but, I am really happy to score points in both races again."

In the championship fight, Chilton slips from sixth to eighth overall, losing out to better scoring Tom Coronel and Norbert Michelisz, but is still right in the hunt to regain that position and will be looking forward to doing just that in Porto in just three weekend's time.
