Nash hails 'massive turnaround' for race two victory

3 July 2013

James Nash put the disappointment of Moscow behind him to take a dominant victory in race two in Porto, despite a tough time in the practice sessions and a point-less race one.

The Bamboo Engineering driver from Milton Keynes, hailed the 'massive turnaround' from the teams relatively poor showing in Russia and their initial pace at Porto to take his and the teams second WTCC victory on the extremely difficult track.

"Any race isn't easy to win," said the former BTCC race winner, "but from where we started this weekend – P24 in the first practice session – it's a massive turnaround and we improved in every session. In that race, I just pulled away, got my head down and relaxed and that's what you have to do when you're driving.

"Porto is an extremely difficult track – on a level with Macau – and you have to be so smooth and yet so aggressive over some of the kerbs; mentally and physically it's one of the hardest tracks to get right."

The win lifts Nash to third in the overall standings and keeps him right at the sharp end for the Yokohama Independents trophy, only four points behind leader, Michel Nykjaer.
