Huff celebrates 'lucky' podium

3 July 2013

Reigning champion Rob Huff declared himself 'lucky' after finishing on the rostrum in the second WTCC race in Porto, despite being hampered with brake issues which occurred on lap three.

The rostrum and fifth place in race one sees the Brit climb up to fourth in the championship, thanks to the demise of Gabriel Tarquini and is now only three points behind James Nash in the tussle for the bronze medal overall.

Huff commented on his issues in the car and on track after his race two podium.

"It makes life a little harder when you start struggling with the brakes after lap 3," said the SEAT driver. "We made a really good start and were much better off the line than Marc Basseng and James Thompson, I managed to get past my team mate (Basseng) going into turn one.

"I got onto Thompson's tail but then coming down to the fastest corner on the circuit on lap 3, I hit the brakes and the pedal went all the way to the bulkhead, it was genuinely quite scary.

"Driving on a street circuit with concrete walls and barriers everywhere, I was having to brake early everywhere and did my best to keep everyone behind. I think I'm lucky to be here, let alone on the podium!"

'Huffy' will be looking to consolidate his podium form and challenge for second in the championship going into the 'fly-away' races, as early contender, Tarquini slips down to fifth overall with a retirement in race one and a non-score in race two.
