Tarquini hopeful of strong showing

Gabriele Tarquini hopes to bounce back to form when the WTCC heads to Argentina for the first time
Gabriele Tarquini says he is hopeful of a strong showing for Honda when the World Touring Car Championship races in Argentina for the first time this weekend.

The Italian heads to the new Rio Honda circuit aiming to bounce back from a tough time in Porto last time out, where an accident in race one and a failure to score in race two saw him slip from second to sixth in the championship standings.

While none of the teams have raced at the new circuit in the past, Tarquini revealed he has been studying the venue in depth to gain as much knowledge as possible and was hopeful of a solid weekend.

"I have watched lots of video of the circuit and it is a very nice track, it is very wide in comparison to many South American circuits I have raced on and this will make the speeds high," said the Italian. "There is a very long straight with a tight turn at the end so there will be opportunities for overtaking.

"I can see that the kerbs are not too high and with it being wide we can expect to take some different lines. We have proved that the Civic's handling and brakes are first class and for Argentina we will try some more suspension developments so I think this will make it an exciting weekend and a chance for the Honda team to have a good race."

Team Director. Alessandro Mariani is also looking forward to returning to racing and is ambitious for the rest of the season.

"Now we are back to the original racing weight this will be better for our cars," he said. "Our target for the remainder of this season is to continue the development of the car at every race, constantly adding some performance.

"We must collect as many points as we can with the aim of delivering Gabriele back to the number two position in the drivers' championship. We must remember that this is still only the first year for the Civic racing in this very competitive World Championship and we have won a race and had ten podiums in our first year.

"Remembering that we took podium results even in the trial races at the end of 2012, we want to give the Civic at least another victory before the end of this season."
