RML 'on schedule' with TC1 Chevrolet

20 January 2014

RML says it is 'on schedule' with the development and build of its new Chevrolet Cruze for the 2014 World Touring Car Championship season.

Having run the car for a number of seasons in the series, the Wellingborough-based outfit is now working on a new version of the Cruze built to the WTCC's latest regulations, with ROAL Motorsport and Campos Racing both having inked deals to run the car during the year ahead.

With RML building six cars for customer teams, and with just over two months to the season opener in Morocco, work continues apace on the new machines and director of motorsport Ron Hartvelt said that plans to deliver the cars in mid-March were still on schedule.

"We're making very good progress on this project,” he said. “Our manufacturing and build crews are incredibly busy and we've taken on additional support staff for these important next few weeks as we complete our build plan.

"Everything is running to schedule on both chassis and powertrain; we just have to complete our final step on the design phase with componentry and then we're straight into build and installation.

"As always, we have a very dedicated, hard-working group at RML working on this project and we all look forward to seeing the new Cruze come to fruition when it takes to the track."

Alongside work on the car, RML is also working on further developments of the 1.6 litre engine that carried Yvan Muller to the title last year.

RML's announcement comes a matter of days after Honda completed a successful shakedown of its new Civic in Italy, with a full testing programme set to begin this week.
