Monteiro getting comfortable with new Honda

17 February 2014

Tiago Monteiro admits that there is still work to be done adapting the new JAS Motorsport Honda Civic for the 2014 World Touring Car Championship, but insists that the team is making good progress.

Both Monteiro and team-mate Gabriele Tarquini were in action over four days in Barcelona, putting the new Civic through an intense and productive test. The Portuguese driver and his team claimed to have taken yet another step forward in the preparation for a season that should be one the WTCC's most competitive ever.

"We worked hard, evolved and did some race simulations, so I think we are on the right track," a more confident Monteiro explained, "We must continue to adapt and understand the car, but I'm already more comfortable."

Over the four days, Honda, JAS Motorsport and the drivers gathered a lot of information on both the mechanical and technical aspects of the Honda, along with getting to understand its handling behaviour. This information will now be analysed by the team before the next winter testing, scheduled to take place at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France between 24-26 February.

"There is still a lot of work to do before the first race of the season,” Monteiro concluded, “However, our programme includes several tests and I think we will have reached a good level by the time the championship gets underway. The entire team has done an outstanding job."
