Monterio scoops Driver of the Year award

Tiago Monteiro: This award was given to me, but it is also for Honda because the team did a fantastic job throughout their first year in a complex championship that is one of the toughest in motorsport...
Tiago Monteiro has received the highest of honours from Auto Hoje magazine, after they named him the 'Best International Driver of 2013' in a ceremony held this week in Portugal.

It is the third time that the Portuguese driver has received this prestigious award since its launch 11 years ago and this time it was given in recognition of the excellent work carried out by him in the 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship.

In his first year competing with the Honda Civic, which was also the Honda Civic's first full season in the WTCC, Monteiro secured a victory and five podium finishes.

“It's always a great satisfaction to know that your work is being rewarded. The year was difficult, it was a great challenge for me and for the team, but it paid off. This award was given to me, but it is also for Honda because the team did a fantastic job throughout their first year in a complex championship that is one of the toughest in motorsport. I sincerely thank Auto Hoje for this distinction,” said the Portuguese driver, who will continue to defend the colours of Honda in 2014.
