Jose Maria Lopez has put himself into a good position to extend his lead in the World Touring Car Championship standings after claiming pole position at the Slovakia Ring.
The Argentine, who currently leads the overall standings from Yvan Muller by 12 points, prevailed in the Q3 session over his Citroen team-mates, the French firm securing another 1-2-3 lock-out with Sebastien Loeb joining him on the front row.
A dominant session for the manufacturer in the end, the early stages of qualifying had hinted at a potential challenge from Norbert Michelisz when he went fastest in Q1, but while the Hungarian would get all the way to Q3 he would end up in fourth, a second off pole.
Fresh from his win in Hungary, Gianni Morbidelli will start in fifth position as the leading Chevrolet driver, ahead of Tom Chilton and Tom Coronel.
Gabriele Tarquini starts in eighth place despite a dramatic moment when his bonnet came up, forcing him to slow on track and almost catching out the following Tiago Monteiro and Rob Huff, the duo taking to the grass to avoid the Italian. They will start 10th and 12th as a result, behind Tarquini and Hugo Valente.
In the TC2 class, Franz Engstler starts on 'pole'', ahead of Pasquale di Sabatino and Petr Fulin.
