Ma Qing Hua set for WTCC debut

Former F1 hopeful Ma Qing Hua is poised to make his WTCC bow with Citroen in Moscow this weekend.
Citroen is poised to unleash a fourth prong in its assault on the 2014 World Touring Car Championship as the series returns to Moscow Raceway.

The first FIA-sanctioned world championship to stage a race in Russia, the WTCC returns with Citroen the new marque to beat, and the team which already holds down the top three positions in the driver standings will add another name to its line-up as former F1 aspirant Ma Qing Hua makes his debut after several months of intensive preparation.

The Chinese driver will line up in the #33 Citroën C-Elysée WTCC alongside regular pilots Sebastien Loeb, Yvan Muller and surprise championship leader Jose Maria Lopez for round six of the 2014 campaign.

“I can't wait to get out and race again, in a high-quality championship and as part of a very professional outfit,” Ma said, “A few weeks ago, I spent a lot of time at the technical centre in Versailles, where it was really special to see the old Dakar Rally and WRC cars, which have won so many races and titles.

“I got the opportunity to meet the whole team and we spent a long time getting me set up in the C-Elysée WTCC. I had taken part in several test sessions over the winter, and I then did another day in Navarra, which enabled us to work more specifically on the set-up of my car.”

It won't be Ma's first appearance at a WTCC event, however, as he joined the team at the Slovakia Ring three weeks ago.

“That was a great experience too,” the tin-top rookie enthused, “Citroën Racing seems to be like one big family and, by the end of the weekend, I felt like I was part of it. In Moscow, I won't have to worry about finding out how the team operates during the races. I'm ready to go and looking forward to a new challenge!”
