Ma Qing Hua has marked his World Touring Car Championship debut with a remarkable victory in the second race of the day at the Moscow Raceway, becoming the first Chinese driver to win in the series.

Making his first WTCC appearance this weekend in a fourth Citroen C-Elysee as part of limited 2014 racing programme, the former Caterham and HRT F1 test driver started the race from second position and was in the right place when early leader Hugo Valente was given a drive-thru penalty for a team infringement.

Enjoying a scrap with Norbert Michelisz in the opening stages to show his impressive racing nous in a relatively unfamiliar car, Hua broke free eventually, assuming the lead when Valente pitted before holding off a charging Yvan Muller at the end.

Winning by just over a second, Hua becomes the first Chinese driver to win a WTCC race and increases Citroen's winning tally this season to 10 victories in 11 races.

Having started fifth, Muller was left with a prime opportunity to claw back ground on Jose Maria Lopez in the standings after the series leader and race one winner was sidelined by technical issues on the first lap.

He eventually worked his way up to second place to ensure the margin between the two remains relatively unchanged at 41 points at the end of the weekend.

Mehdi Bennani picked up his first podium of the season for the Proteam Honda outfit after resisting the attentions of Tom Coronel, with Sebastien Loeb completing the top five.

Tom Chilton, Michelisz, Gianni Morbidelli, the recovering Valente and Rene Munnich completed the points' paying positions.
