World Touring Car Championship leader Jose Maria Lopez has gotten his seventh round at Spa-Francochamps off to a perfect start with the fastest time in free testing.

Currently 41 points clear at the head of the standings in his first season of WTCC racing with Citroen, Lopez continued to stamp his mark on proceedings by pacing the way in Belgium ahead closest rival Yvan Muller in the sister C-Elysee.

Snatching the initiative with his final lap of the session, Lopez headed up the Frenchman by a clear seven tenths of a second, with third place Tiago Monteiro a full second back in the factory Honda Civic.

Sebastien Loeb was fourth best in the third Citroen, ahead of Monteiro's team-mate Gabriele Tarquini, while Dusan Borkovic was the best of the privateer Chevrolet drivers in sixth.

Elsewhere, Ma Qing Hua – a surprise winner on his debut last time out in Russia for Citroen – was eighth fastest, while LADA's challenge was headed by James Thompson in 14th, albeit a full 4.4secs behind as the Granta continues to struggle for pace.
