WTCC Beijing: LADA celebrates long-awaited maiden WTCC win

Rob Huff's win for LADA at Goldenport Park is the first success for the Russian firm in WTCC since its debut in 2008.
Russian firm LADA is celebrating after scoring its first-ever World Touring Car Championship win courtesy of Rob Huff at the Goldenport Park circuit, its first since entering the series in 2008.

Capping a remarkable turn-around in form for the manufacturer, which has struggled to make the Granta hatcback competitive under the new TC1 regulations, Huff was still able to give LADA its first WTCC podium last time out in Argentina with an inspired drive from a reverse grid pole position.

The win in China was achieved in a similar manner, but while the tight, twisty nature of the Beijing venue certainly played to the favour of the LADA, which is down on straight line speed compared with its rivals, Huff was still a fairly comprehensive winner over Tom Coronel and Sebastien Loeb.

Coming just as LADA confirmed the extent of its future WTCC commitment by revealing the Vesta, a new model that has been designed with the intention of going racing, Huff was thrilled with the historic success.

“This victory once again confirms the fact that if the work hard, you can just reach! At the last stage in Argentina, we have been on the podium in second place, and now - the upper stage. The team did just a crazy work throughout the season, and the machine is now in great shape. We tasted the taste of victory, and I think all the time to get used to seeing LADA on the podium! "
