Jose Maria Lopez has put himself well on course to break the record for the most World Touring Car Championship wins in a single season as he snatched pole position for the final round in Macau.
Having wrapped up the 2014 title in Japan, should Lopez notch up a ninth win of the year around the streets of Macau, he will become the most successful WTCC driver over a single season.
After leading FP2 by more than a second, Lopez faced a tougher challenge in qualifying but was still a comfortable three tenths faster than Sebastien Loeb, while Yvan Muller in third place ensured a Citroen 1-2-3.
In the battle to finish the season fourth overall – as the best non-Citroen driver –Norbert Michelisz had the edge over his Honda counterparts by qualifying on the second row, ahead of Tom Coronel, Gabriele Tarquini, Tiago Monteiro and leading LADA driver Rob Huff.
Elsewhere, Pepe Oriola, Mikhail Kozlovskiy and Ma Qing Hua were amongst those to fall foul of Macau's famous walls, the trio qualifying down the order as a result.
Tenth place for Hugo Valente means he will start the second race from pole position.
