Jaap van Lagen is set to return to the Lada Sport Rosneft squad for next month's WTCC Race of Russia after impressing during his initial outing at the Nurburgring.

The Dutch driver is coming off the back of winning the Porsche Supercup round on the street circuit of Monte Carlo, a support race for the F1 Monaco Grand Prix, and is gearing up for his second outing in the factory Vesta TC1 machine at the Moscow Raceway for WTCC on the 5-7 June.

A statement from the team says they hope van Lagen's victory will inspire him at Lada Sport Roseneft's home event. The 38-year-old notched up a points scoring finish last time out in Germany when he filled in for British driver James Thompson who left the team.

"Jaap van Lagen will continue to drive for LADA Sport Rosneft in WTCC Race of Russia," a team statement read. "This follows his strong debut for LADA Sport Rosneft at the WTCC round in Germany, delivering championship points for the team on his first outing, and fresh from the success of victory in the Monaco F1-supporting Porsche Supercup last weekend where he showed considerable class in defeating a high quality 26-car field around the tight streets of the Principality.

"The team hopes that van Lagen's appearance on the top step of the podium in front of the Monaco Royal Box will provide the inspiration to bring a similar result at LADA Sport Rosneft's home race at the Moscow Raceway."

WTCC Race of Russia is scheduled for 5-7 June and will act as the fifth round of the 2015 championship.
