WTCC Race of Thailand: Muller admits WTCC title fight with Lopez ‘far-fetched’

Yvan Muller has called his FIA World Touring Car Championship title battle as 'a little far-fetched' as he attempts to overhaul a 75-point deficit to Jose Maria Lopez with two rounds remaining.

The four-time WTCC champion feels his title charge is effectively over with a steep order to hunt down his Citroen team-mate Lopez. With only a maximum of 100 points left up for grabs, Lopez can seal the championship if he outscores Muller in race one at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand, which is set to host its debut WTCC event.

“Mathematically, I'm still in with a shot in the title race,” Muller said. “But realistically, I don't think it's going to happen. I would have to produce two perfect weekends and hope that Pechito went virtually pointless. It seems a little far-fetched. Above all, I will be trying to enjoy myself, to perform well and to win some more races.”

Muller finished runner-up to Lopez last season as the Argentine grabbed his maiden WTCC crown.
