Volvo has announced Thed Bjork and Fredrik Ekblom will head up their burgeoning World Touring Car Championship effort for 2016 as the Swedish firm gears up for its return to international racing.

Competing under the Polestar Cyan Racing banner with a pair of S60 saloons built to the series' striking TC1 regulations, Volvo's 2016 bid comes after the manufacturer participated in a single season stint in 2011 before returning to the domestic touring car scene.

Leading the challenge will be Bjork and Ekblom, two hugely experienced and successful Swedish drivers, whose accolades include eight Swedish Touring Car titles between them.

Having enjoyed a successful year in the WTCC-aping TTA series in Sweden, Bjork and Ekblom were considered the natural choice for the manufacturer's new international endeavour.

"We have an ideal line-up with Thed and Fredrik for the first year of our new WTCC assault," said. "Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar. "Both are solid on outright speed, race craft and they are extremely well aligned in-between and with the engineering team regarding catching up with quickest in the championship."
