Thed Bjork says his lack of experience at World Touring Car Championship level will not present too much of a hindrance as he and Volvo return to the international series in 2016.
The 35-year-old Swedish driver is preparing to step up to WTCC with Volvo who makes its comeback in the series with Polestar Cyan Racing. The reigning three-time Scandinavian touring car champion has a wealth of knowledge in the Volvo S60 machine but the WTCC race calendar represents a journey into the unknown.
Bjork has competed at just three of the 12 venues – Hungaroring, Shanghai and Nurburgring – in the past but will make his competitive debut at the other nine tracks. Despite his relative inexperience at the venues he is confident it won't pose too much of a challenge.
“I know Hungaroring, I know Shanghai and I know the Nürburgring inside out,” Björk said. “The other ones I should be able to learn quite quickly because I am a quick learner, it's one of my strengths I hope.”
Bjork and Polestar Cyan Racing Volvo team-mate Fredrik Ekblom will mark the Swedish manufacturer's return to WTCC at the 2016 season opener at Circuit Paul Ricard on 1-3 April.
