Jose Maria Lopez has returned to the top of the World Touring Car Championship standings after grabbing bonus points for pole position at the Hungaroring.
Despite being the only Citroen driver to make it into the top five one-lap shootout, Lopez saved his best for last with a 1min 46.109secs lap proving a clear six tenths faster than the opposition. With bonus points added to his total, the two-time champion sneaks back ahead of Tiago Monteiro in the standings as a result.
Tom Coronel will get away from an impressive second place, the ROAL driver hauling his Chevrolet Cruze to the front row, denying the Honda pair of Rob Huff – who started his lap last - and erstwhile leader Monteiro. Thed Bjork starts fifth after getting his Volvo into Q3 for the first time.
Home hero Norbert Michelisz gets underway from sixth position, ahead of leading LADA driver Nicky Catsburg, struggling title contender Yvan Muller in seventh.
Tenth place for Mehdi Bennani means he will start the first reverse grid race from pole position.
