Nestor Girolami has impressed Polestar Volvo in a private test in Argentina enough for the Swedish manufacturer to hand him a one-round drive in the next round of the World Touring Car Championship at Motegi.

The two-time Super TC2000 champion will replace Robert Dahlgren in the Polestar Cyan Racing Volvo driver line-up alongside Thed Bjork for the Japanese round on the 2-4 September aiming to impress enough to secure a full-time drive in 2017.

The Argentine driver enjoyed two WTCC outings for Nika International Honda in 2015, grabbing two points finishes, but opted to switch into the Brazilian Stock Car Championship for 2016.

"It's wonderful to be part of the WTCC again and I am very grateful to Polestar Cyan Racing for this opportunity to race in Japan when I will give all my best to have a great weekend," Girolami said. "I feel very well in this world of World Touring Cars. It's my objective to be part of the WTCC next year and I will fight for it."

Dahlgren will return to the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship as he bids to secure the title, currently 11 points off the championship lead, and Polestar Cyan Racing Volvo will announced a full-time replacement in WTCC for the remainder of the year in the coming weeks.

"We have chosen to let Robert focus his efforts on the STCC as he is in a competitive position for the title and at the same time utilise the unique opportunity to test N?stor during a race weekend," Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, head of motorsport at Polestar, said. "Something that will be different next year when our championship title challenge phase begins."
