Jose Maria Lopez has extended his lead further in the World Touring Car Championship standings with a resounding fourth win of the season at the Moscow Raceway.

Starting from pole position, Lopez survived brief contact with the Honda of Gabriele Tarquini to lead from the opening bend, the Argentinian simply cruising from there to cross the line a clear three seconds up on the competition.

Tarquini held on for second place as the Honda Civic continues to show signs of improving form, while Sebastien Loeb completed the podium for Citroen after getting the jump on Tiago Monteiro on the first lap and holding station.

Lopez's closest title rival Yvan Muller endured a fraught morning as he first battled with Monteiro, only to be overtaken by Tom Chilton. In the end, Muller would get back at Chilton on the final lap, but it means he has slipped further behind team-mate Lopez in the standings.

Making his WTCC debut this weekend in a fourth Citroen C-Elysee, Ma Qing Hua showed little sign of being a touring car rookie as he worked his way up from ninth to a credible sixth position, ahead of a fading Monteiro, Tom Coronel, Norbert Michelisz and Rob Huff, the British driver giving LADA at least one point on home soil.
