A1 Team Germany made a solid start to the fourth weekend of the A1GP season at Sepang, as Nico Hulkenberg posted the quickest time of both practice sessions at the Malaysian Grand Prix venue.

During the opening rookie practice session the 19-year-old posted a time of 1min 54.311secs to edge out South African driver Adrian Zaugg, with home favourite Fairuz Fauzy also in close contention.

In the second session, Hulkenberg produced the fastest A1 lap ever seen at Sepang with a time of 1min 51.789secs - over a second quicker than anyone else - leaving the German team in good shape at the end of the first day of running at the circuit, where mixed conditions gave the teams a taster of what may lie ahead over the course of the weekend.

"I completed both sessions on used tyres and got to grips with the circuit layout very quickly," he said. "Obviously, the track was very dirty at the start of the day. As the circuit cleaned up we concentrated on fine-tuning the set-up.

"David Sears' race team gave me a well-prepared car and arrived at an excellent set-up. It's good to be at the front on Friday, however, in spite of the good lap time we shouldn't get too excited and must concentrate on the forthcoming sessions."
