The level playing ground of the new Taupo circuit has prompted A1 Team Lebanon to promote youngster Alex Khateeb to the role of nominated driver for the first time this season.

Utilising his role as a 'rookie' driver, Khateeb will have more track time than most, a plus point that the team believes will give it a much needed upper hand on the newly renovated New Zealand circuit compared to its nearest rivals. For Khateeb, though, the graduation presents a significant challenge, although he is nonetheless delighted to be making his A1 Grand Prix debut for his nation having played the role of second driver for the majority of the season.

"I'm ready to expand my role from running in the first rookie session assisting the team with their race preparations, to driving every session, experiencing the unique 'hot lap' qualifying system and representing Lebanon in the all-important sprint and feature races," he admitted.

"There's plenty of pressures on me and I know that I need to be totally focused on working closely with the crew and my engineers, as teamwork is so important in racing. The aim is to get our first team points which we're chasing hard. For my first A1GP races, that's a tough challenge, but I'm up for it and I'll be doing my best to bring success to Lebanon in New Zealand."
