China's Ho-Pin Tung claimed his first points in A1 Grand Prix with a fighting drive to ninth place in the feature race at Taupo.

Having struggled with set-up problems through practice and qualifying, Tung came out fighting in the sprint race, belying his lowly 17th position to climb to 13th by the finish to give him a shot at points in the second race.

Indeed, the German Formula Three Champion began to pump in more competitive lap times in the feature race, making the most of mistakes from both USA and Mexico, as well as problems for the likes of Ireland, Great Britain and South Africa to cross the finish line in ninth place and secure two points on only his second outing in the car.

Nonetheless, while Tung was pleased to break his duck, he was frustrated that a slow start to the weekend prevented them from challenging further up the grid.

''After the practice sessions we were very disappointed but we worked hard, had a long debrief and decided to change the car set-up completely which was a good step in the right direction," he admitted.

"In the Feature race I could drive very fast and competitive lap times and was able to overtake some other drivers. Hopefully we can start the next weekend in Australia a lot better with this car set-up'."
