Despite still sporting a carbon fibre cast on his left leg as he recovers from a hairline fracture, Tuka Rocha made a solid start to the weekend in Australia as A1 Team Brazil started preparations for the seventh round of the A1GP season.

Rocha took part in all the available practice sessions at Eastern Creek and posted competitive lap times throughout - especially in the opening rookie only session of the day.

With eight minutes remaining in the wet session, Rocha posted an impressive second quickest time, and by the end of the session he was in third, only behind teams South Africa and France. By the second part of the session, the rain had stopped and the track started to dry - only for a technical problem to keep Rocha sidelined for more than half the session. However, he bounced back to post the twelfth fastest time from his six laps.

With the sun shining for the final practice session, Rocha and the team decided to limit time on track to save tyres for qualifying and struggling with set-up on the car, Rocha had to settle for 18th place.

"I am happy to say that my leg was okay today, I had a little bit of pain when I left the pits but after that there was no pain," Rocha said. "The rookie sessions were positive for us and the first bit in the wet was very good. We had some problems in the second bit which meant we couldn't run much but looking overall at the practice, it was good.

"This afternoon we struggled with something that we have to find, and we also preferred to limit our laps and keep the tyres for tomorrow."
