He may have left it late but the fifth fastest time in the fourth and final segment in qualifying for the seventh round of A1 Grand Prix at Eastern Creek was enough to earn Ho-Pin Tung and Team China sixth place on the grid.

A surprise presence on the third row of the grid when Tung's results in practice and even the start of qualifying are taken into account, the German Formula Three Champion had been comfortably outside the top ten with only one opportunity left to haul himself up the grid.

Nonetheless, a time in the final segment that was some six tenths up on anything he had managed thus far that weekend was enough to propel Tung into sixth place, the Chinese born Dutchman recording by far his personal best qualifying position since joining the team at Sentul.

Indeed, Tung was delighted with the continuous progress the team have made since the previous round at Taupo, leaving him eager to at least hold his position in the sprint race and add to the first points he gained for the team in New Zealand.

"We did make a lot of changes in setups of A1 Team China car from Taupo, New Zealand, and it seems working for me very well. We had a tiny problem from front suspension yesterday, and thanks for our Team, they solved it during the 3rd Practice session this morning.

"I am getting used to this track now, and hopefully I can get more points for A1 Team China in this round."
