Jonny Reid says he feels that people are already aware that New Zealand could be a forced to be reckoned with in A1GP this season, even before his record-breaking lap during the opening day of the pre-season test at Silverstone.

Reid driver set the fastest ever A1GP lap round Silverstone's National circuit, beating the previous record set by A1 Team France's Alexandre Premat.

However, he said the performance was just the confidence booster he needed, with last season's performance meaning that hopes and expectations on A1 Team New Zealand are already high.

"It does bode well for New Zealand," he said, "but we don't really have anything to prove. We showed our pace last year by finishing where we did. We know our way round with this car and I'm working with a strong team.

"Considering I haven't driven all summer, it was a confidence booster for me - I'm not going to say I'm overly confident. I'm just looking forward to Zandvoort really."

Reid set the lap on new tyres late in the day, when the team chose to try a qualifying simulation run ahead of next weekend's season opener.

"It all worked well; I went quickest then I beat it again," he added. "In a 48-second lap you have a fair few cars out there and you are going to come across a fair bit of traffic. I'm sure if I hadn't been held up we would have been considerably quicker than we were this morning."
