Germany will kick off its defence of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport next weekend as the 2007/08 season kicks off at Zandvoort.

The team, with Nico Hulkenberg at the wheel, dominated proceedings last season with nine wins during the campaign to secure a first title and go into the new season hoping to successfully defend the title.

With Christian Vietoris at the wheel of the car, the team will now hope of its season in style at the scene of the first German A1 victory.

"It goes without saying that it is also our target to fight for the title in the new season," he said. "A1 Team Germany scored its first win last year at Zandvoort. I'm interested to see whether we are also at the front from the first race this year. Christian has already demonstrated that he is among the best of the 22 nation field by setting the fastest time in August and fourth position in September during the tests at Silverstone."

Vietoris, Formula BMW Germany champion in the 2006 season, also has fond memories of Zandvoort at will hope to display the same kind of form as the man he replaces at the wheel of the car.

"I was at the front in qualifying in the Formula BMW there, won both races and clinched the championship with races to spare," he said. "I'm a big fan of the circuit in the dunes.

"At our tests at Silverstone it wasn't just about setting lap times. We also learnt a great deal about the car. It was already apparent during the tests, however, that the lap times set by the nations in the third year of the championship are getting much closer."
