Just as he has done the previous two seasons, Neel Jani has taken pole position for Switzerland at Sepang during the latest round of A1 Grand Prix in Malaysia.

Snatching the top spot for the sprint race, Jani carried the strong form that had taken him to the top of the morning practice times before the qualifying sessions to prove a comfortable two tenths up on anyone else.

Claiming the position on his final attempt, the Champ Car star is proving to be something of a Sepang-master having also claimed pole in 2005 and 2006. With a victory following on each occasion too, Jani has high hopes for the races.

This time, Switzerland will have France and Great Britain for company as they rounded out the top three positions, Loic Duval and Oliver Jarvis closely matched in second and third.

A change of driver is paying dividends at Germany and Canada, after A1 GP debutants Michael Ammermuller and Robert Wickens made strong impressions in fourth and fifth, just ahead of championship leaders New Zealand in sixth.

Brazil will line-up in seventh place, ahead of South Africa, China and Netherlands.

Elsewhere, Ireland's Adam Carroll emerged a disappointing 13th on the grid, although he was well ahead of home nation Malaysia, who were down in 19th position with national hero Alex Yoong at the wheel.
