A1 Team Australia has confirmed that John Martin is to step into the race seat for the remainder of the 2007/08 A1GP season to replace Ian Dyk.

Martin, who has held the rookie role so far this season, will replace Ian Dyk who loses the seat after a disappointing campaign to date - which sees the Australian's down in 17th in the standings with just two points.

"Putting John in the driver's seat will be an exciting boost after what has been a slow start to the season for A1 Team Australia," seat holder Alan Jones said. "John is a great new talent that brings great skill, drive and enthusiasm to the team and we look forward to seeing him deliver some great results on the track.

"The decision for Ian to step down from the team was a difficult one, however we would like to thank Ian for all his work over the last two seasons and together wish him the best for his career."

Martin, who competed for Alan Docking Racing in the British F3 International Series last season, will make his race debut in the next round at Taupo, New Zealand later this month and will be eligible to continue running in the rookie sessions until Shanghai later in the year.

"Ian is a top guy and a great ambassador for the team," he said. "I have learnt a lot from him and wish him well for his future. I now have the job to bring our team up the ladder fast to get us some points well before Brands."
